Damn her whole situation. Artemis growled inwardly at the past, it just sucked. This whole damn situation. Her whole past. Everyone in it... Now there was someone she truely cared about... who she could never have.
"Brian,"
She asked softly as she looked up at his stunning blue eyes,
"Are my feelings returned?"

He was taken aback by her question. Hesitantly, he shook his head. "I love you Arti..." He hugged her softly. "As a sister," he said. He pulled away from her, touching her cheek with his hand. "And I always will," his soft, lulling tones suprised him a bit as he watched her, wondering if he was going to get slapped or something for his words.
<<*laughs hysterically* Sound familiar?>>

((Lmao))
Artemis turned away slowly, blinking back tears. Damn this whole thing... only a few more years to go before she could just flat out ditch this place. Damn. Memories flashed through her head, she couldn't stand it. How could he do this to someone? Lead her on for so many years and then basically slap her in the face. Typical man. Damn, she should have known better then to get attached, for attachment never led her anywhere. She got attached to her job, it was gone. She got attached to her family. They were gone. She was attached to Knauer. He might as well be gone as well.

<<lol. Please don't hit me when I see you next ;D>>
"Arti?" he said softly. Figuring it was best to leave her alone, he backed off and watched her for a moment. He knew that he had just shattered her heart and he couldn't help her pick up the pieces. This pained him as well, watching her break down in front of him. For the past years she had been everything for him... but he just didn't feel that way. Was that so wrong? He didn't know but it cut into him deeply knowing that he could possibly lose her... perhaps he just did...

((lol, *glomps jess* Now why would I do that?))
Artemis just stared out into space as she curled up into her own little ball, ignoring Knauer's existance. Lying her head on her knees she leaned her back up against the cold cement wall, staring straight ahead,
"Yes Captain?"
She asked, not warmly, not cooly, but how a S.W.A.T personell would address their commanding officer. Oh how she missed her younger days, how she missed S.W.A.T. how she missed her old life.

<<*glomps Jazz* Because it's you? lol j/k.>>
"I..." he trailed off. "I'm sorry..." Would things ever be the same between the two of them? Or would they just float apart like Knauer had with most of his other friends. He didn't want that to happen. He wanted to protect Arti, to heal her when she was hurt... and love her like family... Was this too much to ask? The two of them had been through thick and thin while being in his hellhole... he didn't want that to change.
He sat down in front of her so he could touch her hair. "I don't want you to hurt... but I just..." He shook his head. He just didn't love her like that...

"Ya, ya, I know Knauer."
Artemis tried her best not to snap but it was becoming a bit diffucult. Dazzling green eyes pierced Knauer's as she looked him directally in the eyes, not a tear visible. She had learned to be stong durring her many years here. Tears did nothing, only show your weakness. Why cry when there wasn't a real reason worth crying about?
"I'm fine. I understand."
Yea, she understood alright. Knauer loved Kaylen. It was a bit overly obvious but currently, Artemis did not give a damn. She had had her hear ripped out too many times to care this time. It was life. The sad story of her life.

His shoulders shook with frustration. Standing up, he unsheathed his nightstick and slammed it so hard against the cement wall, it splintered. A few pieces found their way into his hand but he didn't care "DAMN IT!" he yelled, glaring at the wall as if it had done him a great wrong. He panted slightly as he began to have a mental break down. "Don't you understand Arti!?" He whipped around to face her.
"You're my best friend! I'm sorry that I don't return the feelings but that is no reason to totally hate me!" He ignored the fact that his hand ached as he tried to calm down hitting his back harshly against the wall as he slumped down against it, panting as he hid his eyes with his hand.

"Did I ever say I hated you, Knauer?" She asked, as plainly as before, tilting her head to the side. No. She could never hate him. Artemis could try all she wanted to hate him, but she could never hate Brian Knauer. "And I do understand, though you may not realize it." Yea, she knew, she understood that part as well but after you get your heart ripped out, what are you suppose to do? Go bouncing back up to the person did and say, 'You're still my best friend, let's pertend that none of this ever happened' ?? No, you're a bit bitchy for a bit and THEN you're totally Ok, and relitively normal.

He looked up at her, pain mapping his eyes, causing them to become glazed. How could she be so plain? Shaking his head, he looked away, wondering what was going to happen in his life. He was in pain and he was going to hide it. Sighing softly he allowed himself to bring his knees up to himself and bury in his face in them. "No... you don't... you don't have the responsibilites of a guard... you don't have five women to deal with... you don't have the Warden nagging at you..." he replied.
He looked up at her, biting back the tears. Never once in his life had he cried in front of a woman and he wasn't going to start now. "You're my best friend Arti... I don't want that to change." He reached out to pick up the broken nightstick and stopped, realizing that if he went furthur, he'd poke the shit out of himself.

"It won't Knauer, It won't."
She assured him, her emerald orbs still following his. A lost look entered her eyes. Artemis could tell he was in pain... so was she. But she could and would never show it. Never.

He sighed softly and kicked the nightstick away before crawling over to her. He kneeled before her, gently touching her face. He knew she was in just as much pain as he was. He wanted it to melt away. Shaking his head, he instantly stood up as he heard footsteps.
"Sir?" a guard said.
"What do you want?" Knauer snapped.
"Erm... just p-patroling," he stammered.
"Then get on with it you slacker!" Knauer snapped, watching the guard scamper away. Shaking his head, he looked at Arti.

Artemis smiled slightly at the fleeing guard. All feared Knauer... Even Lambert, and Englehart... That was something to laugh about considering they weighed a considerable amount more then him. Lifting her hand up, running her fingers down his cheek before crossing her arms again.

<<lmao, all fear me ;D j/k>>
Knauer looked at Arti again, smiling softly as he gently touched her hand. He sighed softly, his eyes betraying kindness that no one else had ever known. He loved the power he had. He loved the power of being respected and feared... by most anyways... "You are such a case," he teased like he had when they were a bit younger. His lips pulled back to reveal a toothy smile as he watched her.

"Nah, I'm just a Bitch."
She smirked. How Knauer loved being in charge. He was always the boss, she was just the antagonist. Hahahaa.. Arti loved being a little devil.
